Vassilis Kopanas is a Senior Expert at DG CONNECT, European Commission, with a responsibility to mainstream digital in European Union’s external policies, such as Enlargement, Neighbourhood, Trade and Development.
Since 2013, Mr Kopanas played a key role in developing the relations between the European Union and its six eastern Neighbours (Eastern Partnership region) in the area of the digital economy and society. Achievements in this area include:
Before that and since 1998, Mr Kopanas held the posts of Project Officer and Programme Officer in DG CONNECT, responsible for a portfolio of European Union funded research ICT projects and for the Advisory Group to the ICT part of the Framework Programmes for Research. Before joining the European Commission, Mr Kopanas held ICT related posts in the private sector in Greece.
Mr Kopanas holds a BSc in Electrical Engineering from the National Technical University of Athens, Greece; he also holds MSc and PhD degrees in Computer Science from the University of Manchester, Institute of Science and Technology, UK
